Bus Stop Upgrade Works - August & September, 2012 -

Bus Stop Upgrade Works  - Bonney Ave, Gerler Rd, Gellibrand St, Kedron Park Rd, Kent Rd, Kingsford Smith Drv, Lamington Ave, Lodge Rd, Newmarket Rd, Vernon Tce.   

Council is undertaking a rolling program of works across Brisbane upgrading bus stops to provide improved access for public transport users of all abilities. Many of Brisbane’s bus stops have already been upgraded however some still require modifications. The works involved in upgrading bus stops to meet the Disability and Discrimination Act (DDA) include:

- Ensuring that concrete waiting areas and boarding slabs are of an adequate size and level

- Installation of tactiles at the bus stop sign, which provide a location indicator for the visually impaired

- Repositioning bus seating or shelter locations to ensure there is adequate waiting area for wheelchair and pram users

Council will make every effort to minimise inconvenience to surrounding residents, bus stop users and road users during the works. Working hours will generally be between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Duration of works at each site is approximately 4 weeks depending on weather conditions and scope of works being undertaken. Council's Field Services Group will provide prior notification to residents of properties adjacent to the work sites and signage will also be in place to inform cyclists and pedestrians around the works.

Council is working to ensure at least 55% of Brisbane bus stops are upgraded by December 2012. Please find list below a list of bus stop sites that are planned for upgrade within Hamilton Ward, during August and September 2012.
