Brisbane City Council offers pensioners a discount on the rates account for their principal place of residence.
Eligibility is contingent on maintaining permanent residence at the site of the rates account and being in possession of either a current Centrelink Queensland Pensioner Concession card; a Veterans’ Affairs Gold card; or a Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession card.
Applying is simple enough, phone Council on 3403 8888 or visit your local Council Ward Office to complete a rates remission application.
In regard to your water and sewerage accounts, upon your application being accepted by Brisbane City Council, automatically a pensioner remission is provided on your Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU) bill.
However, you may not be aware to receive the State Government Pensioner remission on your water and waste water utility bill, you must lodge a separate application directly via QUU. You can contact QUU between 7am-7pm Monday to Friday on 13 26 57, via email at customerservice@urbanutilities.com.au or by visiting the service centre on Level 6 of the Brisbane Transit Centre at 171 Roma Street, Brisbane.
Further information about pensioner remissions offered by Council can be found on Council’s website, click here.
