Working hard for Hamilton

New citizens and recognised local gems

New citizens and recognised local gems

Australia Day 2012 was characteristically hot and sticky, a brief departure from the current wet spell.

Despite Brisbane Brass opting to not take the risk of wet weather (understandably) the Hamilton Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony was celebrated without a hitch in the now air-conditioned Hamilton Town Hall, where 26 people from 13 countries vowed their allegiance to Australia.

However, Australia Day is not only a day of welcoming new citizens, it is also a day when well deserved community volunteers and nation builders are recognised.

I am pleased to advise the following local residents received Australia Day Honours of Medal (OAM) in the General Division:

Mr Peter Brooke for his community contributions as a pilot with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Queensland.

Dr Ernest Cramond MBE for his service to medicine as a general practitioner and through the Australian Medical Association.

I extend my sincere congratulations to both Mr Brooke and Dr Cramond for their achievements.
